Why do I feel like Skymall is constantly trying to revolutionize the way we travel, and has thus far failed miserably?

For eight years my career involved frequent airline travel. As a result, I spent much of my time thumbing through the pages of the backseat pocket circular known as Skymall.
I was always astounded by both the useful, and unusual aspect of the products, and eagerly awaited every new addition.
Everyone knows Skymall, and at one time or another, most of us have seen an item that made us think either "Wow I need that" or "What the hell?" These are those products.
